The Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals guarantees high-quality, safe and accessible health care services for all individuals with differing intellectual/developmental abilities, mental health or substance use disorders, or who are in the care of facilities administered by BHDDH through an integrated healthcare landscape, in which all Rhode Islanders will thrive. These resources are compiled in partnership with the Department of Labor and Training.
Substance Use & Treatment

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Apply online through the Social Security Administration.
You can use SSA’s online Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool to see if you might be eligible for SSI or other programs and learn how to qualify and apply. This tool is not an application for benefits; you will need to start an application.

Education Support
Programs in Adult Education, GED, Workforce Training, and English for Speakers of Other Languages are offered during the day and evening to prepare adults for jobs and career pathways. Instruction can be provided face-to-face or online.
The center provides free college planning services: help with finding colleges, and with college and financial aid applications.
Disability Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for the state of Rhode Island.
Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are customized learning opportunities that must be developed by Local Education Agencies for all students grades 6-12, as a meaningful way to connect a student’s academic, career, and social/emotional goals and passions with their secondary school experiences.
Job and Vocational Support
State of Rhode Island partners directly with employers to ensure Rhode Islanders get the skills they need to secure well-paying jobs in growing industries. Offers support services, job coaching and more to job seekers.
PrepareRI provides RI students with the advanced skills they need for in-demand jobs.
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program assists individuals with disabilities to choose, prepare for, obtain and maintain employment.
YouthWORKS 411 centers offer education, occupational skills training, job placement services, and connections to other social services for those ages 14-24.
Local Community Support
If you need a place to sleep or are having an emergency, contact Crossroads. Crossroads’ staff makes referrals to shelters that have available beds. Shelters provide a temporary place to stay and the basic necessities for individuals and families in crisis. 401-521-2255

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank distributes food to people in need through a network of agencies statewide.

Call Rhode Island 2-1-1 line for confidential information and referrals related to lifelong learning, basic supports, and community engagement. You can get information about food, housing, or medical costs. The call is free and available in multiple languages.
