LASER Kits (Learning About Society, Environment, and Resources)

Complete list of LASER Kits

LASER kits are tools to engage children in the stories of social studies and science. In these kits you’ll learn about a little girl who wrote a letter to Abraham Lincoln urging him to grow a beard, you’ll go back in time with a grandmother who traveled during the 1940s in a military family, and you’ll witness a boy and his grandfather enjoying a traditional Wampanoag clambake. LASER kits are available to teachers and child care providers. Their easy-to-read format allows everyone from an after-school counselor to a veteran teacher to benefit from their value.

With such a high emphasis on reading and math, social studies and science can often be pushed to the bottom of the priority list. LASER kits unite these disciplines so that students and teachers can benefit from the joys of literacy while learning about social studies. Each kit includes hands-on activities that will have your students learning and having fun at the same time.

Each LASER kit contains five step-by-step activities accompanied by a read aloud book. Each lesson includes setup instructions, a list of materials, critical thinking questions, and often an extension activity. An educational video is provided in each kit.

For information on borrowing the kits, please call Karen Coletti at the Providence Public Library at 455-8132, or email at kcoletti@provlib.org.
